What is a Scar?

A scar is the way in which body replaces and heals burned, lost or damaged skin. The space left by the wound is covered with tissue similar that can be found in muscles, and that is way the scars look different from the skin.

A scar can be caused by many different reasons, such as:

  • Injuries (cuts, burns, beatings).
  • Surgery.
  • Infections.
  • Tissue inflammation.

What is a Scar Revision?

Scar Revision It is commonly known in Plastic Surgery as the procedure which aims to improve the appearance of the affected area, and in some cases, restore some function of the body that has been committed after the trauma.

It is worth clarifying that the scars can not be eliminated entirely. The Plastic Surgery allows only improve their appearance or make them less noticeable.

What kind of treatment can be done?

There are many techniques that a plastic surgeon can use in order to correct the appearance of a scar. The choice of an appropriate technique depends on the review done in each specific case. Some of the available options are:

  • Surgery: sometimes there is a surgery in which could be removed part of the fabric that makes up the scar.
  • Creams / Massage: treatment made using a special creams directly on the scar. The objective is to soften the tissues working directly on the structures of collagen, trying to achieve realign them in order to improve their appearance.
  • Laser: is used especially in very old scars. The process is not invasive. The device used emits an intense laser light used to reduce blood vessels in the scar tissue, and thus significantly improve their appearance.
  • Skin Grafts: take a piece of healthy skin from another part of the body (the donor site) and joins the area needy. We must remove the scar tissue before performing this procedure.
