What are the Cleft Lip and Cleft Palate? The Lip and / or Palate Creases, also known as harelip, is a birth abnormality that occurs in the lip, mouth, or both. It occurs at an early stage of pregnancy (first three months), when the sides of the lip and palate did not fuse properly. When a child is born with a separation in the upper lip, is said to have the lip Creases. Moreover, when born with a defect similar, but on the "roof of the mouth" or palate, is said to have the Palate Creases. Because the lip and palate are developed in isolation, it is possible that this is only the Creases lip or palate only Creases. However, in almost half the cases, the lip as the Palate presents this anomaly. Return to List of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery Procedures
