What is the Nose Surgery (Rhinoplasty)?

Rhinoplasty is a plastic surgery in which it is possible to give a new aspect to the patient's nose. This can be done by modifying the cartilaginous structures and the bones of this organ.

This surgery is Ambulatory. It could be done on a weekend, and it doesn't require medical incapacity.

What is the Rhinoplasty for?

The Rhinoplasty or Nose Surgery is one of the most commonly procedures done in Plastic Surgery, because it has a great variety of uses, for example:

  • Increase or decrease the size of the nose.
  • Improve the beauty of the patient's face.
  • Change the aspect of the end of the nose or its "bridge".
  • Change the angle between the nose and the superior lip.

The best moment to practice the surgery, is when the skeleton of the face has been completed. Otherwise, it could be a problem in the future:

• Women: after the 15 or 16 years of age.
• Men: after 18 years of age.

It is really important to prevent any risk. So it is necessary to make some examinations like:

• Coagulation times: to analyze the tolerance of blooding.
• Sugar Levels: to analyyze the healing possibilites and prevent infection problems.

The Rhinoplasty, like any other plastic surgery, could have some risks. Something important to take in mind to avoid any problem:

• Verify that your Plastic Surgeon is a member of Colombian Plastic Surgery Society.
• Follow carefully all the recommendations given by your plastic surgeon.
• Make sure that the procedure is practiced on a hospital completely equipped, not in any place.
• It is important not to have flu and not to have any respiratory infection.
• Ask your Plastic Surgeon to show photographies of the result of previous surgeries done by him/her.

What kind of technology is required for a Rhinoplasty?

Surgeries like Rhinoplasty requires a really advanced technology, because during this procedure, it is necessary to fracture the nasal bones and carve the nose with a high precision.

We use some chisels special designed for bones, similar to the ones used for hand surgery. This chisels are just two milimiters long, and for that reason our patients suffer a very low inflammation.

How is the Recovery time after the Nose Surgery?

During the first week after the surgery, it is necessary for the patient to use a special device with some types. After that the patient will have to use only the types in the next three weeks.

The nose inflammation could delay from six to nine weeks to disapear. The patient will have to take care of the nose doing things like for example lubricate the internal part of the nose, and others recommendatios given by the plastic surgeon.
